Destination Queenstown to lead tourism delegation to China

Destination Queenstown to lead tourism delegation to China in inaugural Tourism Exchange

Queenstown, New Zealand (16 August, 2018) – Destination Queenstown is leading a delegation of Queenstown tourism businesses and officials to China in one of the first events celebrating the China-New Zealand Year of Tourism 2019 in October.

The China Tourism Exchange will provide a platform for Queenstown tourism businesses to strengthen relationships with key travel trade partners in China, focusing on highlighting unique experiences and encouraging year-round travel.

The event is also one of the first engagements as part of the China-New Zealand Year of Tourism 2019, an initiative between the New Zealand and China governments that encourages tourism and cultural exchange, strengthening the mutual opportunities for growing our relationship.

Destination Queenstown chief executive Graham Budd says the Exchange, held 15-20 October in three China cities, will also provide an opportunity for a group of Queenstown’s tourism industry operators to gain market intelligence about Chinese travellers’ travel habits.

“Chinese visitors are a vitally important part of our visitor make-up, being our largest long-haul market by both value and volume. The Exchange will provide a forum for Queenstown businesses to connect with and deepen relationships with key Chinese contacts, with the intention to showcase Queenstown’s premium experiences as a collective.”

Mr Budd is also delighted to announce that Queenstown Lakes District Mayor Jim Boult and Mayoress Karen Boult have accepted an invitation to join DQ’s inaugural China Tourism Exchange visit in October.

Mayor Boult will attend DQ’s VIP tourism industry event in Shanghai on 16 October, before travelling to Queenstown Sister City Hangzhou for two days of official meetings and a Sister City function.

Mayor Boult says he and his wife are excited to join the China Tourism Exchange, which will include his first official visit to Queenstown Sister City Hangzhou, and to understand more about the opportunities for Queenstown’s local economy.

“I look forward to visiting China as part of the Exchange and to further strengthen Queenstown’s relationship with Sister City Hangzhou.”
