Competitive workplaces take on the Auckland Sky Tower this Friday, August 10
With three days to go until the Step Up Sky Tower Stair Challenge, business teams have raised more than $300,000 so far
for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC).
This Friday, teams from organisations, including SKYCITY, Farmers, Ray White New Zealand, Bridgestone, Bell Gully and
PWC, are competing for race and fundraising prizes.
Amongst the five-person teams are inspirational survivors of blood cancer and other health challenges.
In 2017, Laurinda Howarth underwent chemotherapy for Hodgkin’s lymphoma and was given the all-clear in December. Having
been supported by LBC, Laurinda knew about Step Up and was determined to participate this year.
Leukaemia survivor Milly Farrand has been cancer free for 10 years and is celebrating by doing the Step Up Sky Tower
Stair Challenge along with her brother who donated his bone marrow to give Milly back her life.
Supporting Milly is good friend Jamie Archibald who is also taking part in one of the teams from Community Leisure
Management (CLM). No stranger to health challenges, Jamie has cystic fibrosis and will be racing up the Sky Tower just
eight months after a double lung transplant.
Twenty years after surviving leukaemia as a child, Sasha Temaru founded her personal training business Grind Health and
Fitness in Wellington. Having well exceeded their fundraising targets, Sasha and two teams from Grind will be travelling
north and racing up the Sky Tower.
Registration starts at 1pm with start times of teams staggered from approximately 2pm until 5pm.
The funds raised will help Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand to provide vital support for families living with blood cancer in their communities across New
Zealand. LBC provides information and education, funds research for better treatments and advocates on behalf of
families. LBC receives no government funding for the support given.
