SUNDAY MORNING UPDATE - HEAVY RAIN WARNING & WATCH REMAIN IN PLACE

We have received the latest forecast from the MetService and the Heavy Rain Warning and Watch still remain in place till 3:00pm on Monday.

In relation to the Warning for the area north of Tolaga Bay they predict another 100mm to 130mm to fall about the ranges and 50 to 80mm in lower lying areas. This is on top of what has already fallen.

Looking at our telemetry the rainfall for the last 48hrs from 8:00am Friday to 8:00am Sunday shows that in line with the forecasts the biggest totals mainly north of Tolaga Bay and inland nearer the ranges.

The RIP has received 131mm, Pakihiroqa 99mm, Waikura 97mm, Poroporo 94mm, Mata 93mm, Oweka 82mm, Puketoro 80mm, Puketawa & Fernside both 76mm and Hicks Bay 73mm.

Further south and out more towards the Coast most places seem to be ranging from 30 – 50mm, with most in the 30 – 40mm range. Gisborne Airport has recorded 36mm, Hikuwai 4 – 55mm, Tolaga Bay only 24mm, Kanakanaia 32mm, Matawai 35mm, Ngatapa 33mm and Waerenga-O-Kuri 43mm to name a few sites.

The rivers have continued to rise slightly which is to be expected. Over the last 48hrs the Hikuwai has risen to 2.96m up from 1.79m, the Waimata has risen to 1.57m up from 1.13m, the Waipaoa has risen to 2.32m up from1.79m and the Te Arai has risen to 0.65m up from 0.25m. NONE OF THESE ARE CONCERNING.

It’s wet and miserable but there are still no know issues around the district and at this point we have nothing causing us concern. As always we will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed.
