Marlborough Youth Council goes live on Instagram
2 August 2018
In a first for the Council, the Marlborough Youth Council has launched its own Instagram account, designed to keep Marlborough’s young people in the loop.
The account is the latest in the Youth Council's arsenal of social media accounts, adding to its existing presence on Facebook and its website.
The website has also been revamped, providing new graphics, functionality and better accessibility on mobile devices, along with Facebook embedded on the home page.
The Youth Council meets regularly, and just like the Council, makes policy-based decisions and implements new practices following feedback or requests from the public. The Youth Council also manages events and has a communications and promotions team that contribute to the Instagram account.
Mayor John Leggett says it's great to see the Youth Council taking requests from their fellow peers and turning their ideas into reality.
"It's fantastic to have a place where the Youth Council can share current information in a timely and relevant way. As well as being able to post images and photos to Instagram, they can also post videos using this channel. I'm told there are some great effects that can be used to help promote their stories.
"It's important that the Youth Council has access to the right tools they need to communicate with their audience. This is a social media channel driven by youth, for youth," John says.
