Get in quick with environmental nominations
Wed 01 Aug 2018
What do schoolchildren, farmers, major corporates, marae-focused educators, volunteers and small enterprises have in common?
Answer: They can all be winners in the Taranaki Regional Council’s Environmental Awards. Last year’s 16 winners included schools, dairy and hillcountry farmers, bush block owners, businesses big and small, non-government organisations and their volunteers, and educators working with marae to minimise waste to landfill.
See their video profiles at www.bit.ly/TRC-winners-2017 (external link).
This year’s awards will be presented in October and nominations close in just two weeks’ time on 15 August.
“We cast the net wide,” says the Council Chairman, David MacLeod.
“What our winners have in common is the Taranaki ‘get on and do it’ attitude. It’s a major reason that the region enjoys a generally high-quality environment. People in all walks of life are pulling their weight on behalf of the environment and taking Taranaki forward.”
The awards are made in five categories:
• Te taiao me te pākihi – Environmental leadership in business, sponsored by Ngāruahine, Ngāti Ruanui, Te Ātiawa, Taranaki and Ngāti Mutunga.
• Environmental leadership in dairy farming, sponsored by Fonterra.
• Environmental leadership in land management, sponsored by Dow AgroSciences.
• Environmental action in the community, sponsored by Methanex.
• Environmental action in education, sponsored by Contact Energy.
People can nominate themselves or their organisation, or another person or organisation.
