TCDC: Proposed Alcohol Control Bylaw - consultation
Proposed Alcohol Control Bylaw - consultation
closes today
Today is the last chance to give
our Council your thoughts on our proposed Alcohol Control
Bylaw. The submission deadline is 4pm Monday 30 July.
Many of us like to enjoy a drink at the beach or in a seaside reserve from time to time - but where and what times of year should this be okay, and how do we make sure people behave responsibly when they're consuming alcohol in public places?
We're reviewing our current Liquor Ban Bylaw and want to replace it with the proposed Alcohol Control Bylaw. The draft bylaw is available to view on our online consultation portal and on our website.
Also available on our website is a summary of changes from the current Liquor Ban Bylaw to the proposed bylaw.
The new bylaw will regulate where and when people can possess or consume alcohol in public places, through a mix of year-round and summer bans on alcohol in our town centres and some of our beaches and reserves.
You can view the proposed year-round
and summer alcohol ban areas on our interactive story
map.
Elements of the proposed
bylaw:
1. Permanent alcohol bans: The centres of
our bigger communities would be subject to permanent alcohol
bans - 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a
year.
2. Seasonal alcohol bans on our east coast beaches
and adjoining reserves: Alcohol would be banned from 7pm -
7am over the peak summer period of 20 December to 9
February.
