Subject; West Coast feasibility study highlights potential of rail said kiwi Rail CEO Peter Reidy- Friday, 20 July 2018, 1:38 pm " We will also explore opportunities to partner with local iwi" - said the media release on 20th July.
Citizens Environmental Advocacy Centre is encouraged that KiwiRail are now encouraging rail services to resume in our provinces, but wants to encourage Kiwi Rail to have the elders and disabled considered also in these plans for increased rail passenger services throughout NZ provinces.
So then Northland and all East Coast HB/Gisborne communities – must also include our elders & disabled among us that cannot drive on the roads will need rail passenger services too, as so far have not yet been considered here.
These ‘feasibility studies’ now needs to be changed to include rail services for the elders and disabled in our regional communities.
Importantly this fundamental inclusion for our elders and disabled to be considered is their preservation of human rights given to be provided for a safe rail passenger service, say’s Citizens Environmental Advocacy Centre’s Secretary Ken Crispin.
Ken has met with many elders who have expressed to him that driving on the regional narrow roads with large volumes of trucks is now a very frightening experience for them, and they wished that a railcar service was again available, as they used to have in their regions up until the 1990’s.
