Dress for Success Auckland and Ignite Colleges Team Up to Support South Auckland Women
First impressions count – especially when it comes to job interviews. In a bid to help students and the local South Auckland community increase their chances of employment, Ignite Colleges has teamed up with the not-for-profit, Dress for Success Auckland, to host a unique fashion event.
Set for July 31 at Ignite Colleges’ Manukau Campus, the show will see Ignite students take to the catwalk modelling a range of professional attire, perfect for job interviews. These new and pre-loved items donated by the community for women seeking employment, will be displayed to promote the dressing service offered by Dress for Success. In addition, Dress for Success will offer a pop-up sale of non-interview clothing from 4.00pm and again after the fashion parade - all for only $5 apiece.
Dress for Success has been providing professional work-wear to women in need for 19 years in Auckland – but this is the first time it has held a sale event in South Auckland.
Dress for Success Auckland Executive Manager Margot Minett Earwaker says, “We run three similar clothing sales each year in central Auckland, but this will be a first for South Auckland. We have been wanting to build a stronger presence in the South Auckland area for some time now, and this exciting new initiative has come about as a result of our partnership with Ignite Colleges.”
Sixty laundry bags of donated new and pre-loved clothing items will be available for sale - mainly women's but some men's items too!
For Ignite Colleges General Manager Jasbir Kaur, the fashion event is a great way to boost South Aucklanders’ awareness of the Dress for Success organisation and help build the confidence and work-readiness of Ignite’s students.
“Ignite Colleges has a strong focus on preparing our students in all aspects of work-readiness before they graduate. Looking the part for a job interview is one of those aspects,” says Jasbir.
“We are extremely impressed with the great work Dress for Success does, and many of our students have used their services. Hosting this fashion event is an opportunity for us to show our support of this worthwhile charity and connect with those in the South Auckland community who could benefit from their services.”
The event will run from 4pm until 7pm, and in addition to the fashion show and clothing sale, will include inspirational speeches from Miss Australasia 2017, Jasdeep Basra and Judge Soana Moala of the Manukau District Court. Guests will be treated to mouth-watering fare created by Ignite’s cookery students together with coffees and mocktails whipped up by the provider’s hospitality students.
“It’s a really good opportunity for our students to showcase their skills to the public and build confidence – which is another crucial aspect of employment success.”
Makeup for the event is being provided by sponsors L’Oréal, with help from Samala Robinson Academy.
The fashion show takes place at Ignite Colleges’ campus at 98 Kerrs Rd, Manukau on Tuesday July 31. All welcome. To reserve your spot please phone 0800 200 345 or email info@ignitecolleges.ac.nz
