Dunedin (Tuesday, 10 July 2018) – The Dunedin City Council has allocated $508,700 in the annual funding round for
premier and major events in Dunedin.
The DCC Grants Subcommittee late last month allocated funding from the 2018/19 Events Contestable Fund for premier and
major events.
Committee Chair Cr Aaron Hawkins says, “Whether it’s the world's finest drivers tearing up the hinterland in the Otago
Rally, or the next generation of fashion design superstars competing for glory at the iD Emerging Designer Awards, our
major and premier events continue to bring the best in the business to Dunedin.
“These events help deliver on a range of the city's goals, not just economic but social, cultural and environmental. The
relatively small amounts of money dished out by the DCC help enable an events calendar worthy of one of the world's
great small cities.”
DCC Events Special Projects Co-ordinator Tammy Jackman says the aim of the fund is to develop Dunedin’s outstanding
major and premier events, but also to encourage smaller events to become larger.
