Ministry for the Environment approves funding for water scheme design study
Manawatū District Council has been approved funding to conduct a study into creating a water scheme for the community at
Ohakea.
The Ministry for the Environment has approved funding of $50,000 for a detailed design study that will look at the
options for an improved Water Scheme and the potential costs involved, as part of the steps to implement the proposal.
Council believes the funding will give officials the opportunity to give the surrounding residents reassurance of a safe
and quality water supply.
Mayor Helen Worboys welcomes the funding from the Ministry for the Environment and says that the result is fantastic for
the local community.
“The funding will give residents reassurance that Council, working with government departments, is doing everything it
can to remedy the stress and uncertainty caused by the contamination,” she said.
“Residents can be assured the study we are undertaking will find the best way forward to ensure the water supply is
compliant, safe and beneficial to the environment.”
The government has not yet made any decisions regarding the contribution it may make to funding the proposed scheme.
