SIR RAY AVERY ASKS ALL OF NEW ZEALAND TO STEP UP/SHOUT IN SUPPORT OF HIS CHARITY FUNDRAISER AT EDEN PARK

As he faces a backlash from a handful of neighbours of Eden Park, Sir Ray Avery is asking not only Aucklanders but all New Zealanders to get on their social media and support his submission to the Auckland Council to hold a special family concert and Telethon at Eden Park to raise $4 million dollars which will save one million babies in developing countries.

He is making this call to action as he faces strong anti-concert submissions to Auckland Council from neighbours of Eden Park.

BACKGROUND STATEMENT FROM SIR RAY AVERY

“I am surprised and disappointed at the attitude of some of the neighbours and their submissions to shut the concert down. It just doesn’t make sense to me – the concert will run for three hours and will change the lives of many babies born too soon.

The Sir Ray Avery Foundation Eden Park concert and Telethon aims to raise the four million dollars to fund 2000 Lifepod Incubators and save at least one million babies lives. It is planned to be held on Waitangi Day 2019.

The Eden Park Neighbours Association (EPNA) Newsletter claims that the concert has no plans for noise mitigation.

That was my first shock as I had spoken to the president Mark Donnelly on numerous occasions and we had a “gentleman’s agreement” that we would work closely together to come up with a solution to make sure the Association’s noise. concerns were mitigated.

I had shared with Mark some cool Kiwi technology which could mitigate any sound transfers from the stadium and made a commitment to ensuring that the concert could go ahead with the blessing of the EPNA. Mark has clearly betrayed my trust and his organisation and others simply want to shut down the concert and want it to go anywhere but there.

A handful of other powerful objectors including the former Prime Minister Rt Hon Helen Clark insist that the concert could be held at another venue.

This is simply not true. We are holding it particularly at Eden Park because of the type of concert, the talent, the Telethon and associated sponsors and the facilities Eden Park has so generously offered to us.

The objectors are using the “another venue” excuse to exonerate themselves from any responsibility for shutting down a charity concert which can save at least a million babies lives. I am absolutely stunned and saddened.

They are putting in jeopardy all the sensitive negotiations we have in place to create such a huge event.

Every person filing an opposition to the concert needs to understand that they are sabotaging everything I have worked for to save the lives of at risk babies.  The event is also an opportunity to show the world what a gutsy and generous lot we New Zealanders are and the technology we are capable of creating to change the world.

I am the most passionate New Zealander. Everyone who arrived in New Zealand whether on the first waka, or later planes and ships is a natural adventurer.

We came only with what we could carry but everyone carried a dream of a new life in a new land that and a better life.
