Congratulations to the Prime Minister from Nelson

On behalf of Nelson City, I would like to convey my heartfelt congratulations to our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her partner Clarke Gayford on the birth of their baby girl.
In this 125th anniversary year of suffrage, since New Zealand led the world as the first country to afford women the right to vote, it is a great delight that our Prime Minister can normalise the role of women as parents, workers, and leaders.
As first woman mayor of one of New Zealand’s oldest cities (Nelson is 159 years old), and as a Mum, I celebrate this milestone of women in leadership.
In honour of this momentous occasion, I will be acknowledging the birth with a donation from the Mayor’s fund of $1000 to Women’s Refuge. This reflects the generosity of spirit of the Prime Minister in making sure that all New Zealanders deserve the best support possible.
There will be many happy and wonder-filled times ahead for you – best wishes.
