List of Waitakere Ranges tracks considered safe

PRESS RELEASE – 21 June 2018

Te Kawerau a Maki would like to clarify and confirm the list of tracks within and surrounding the Waitakere Ranges forested area (the Waitakere Rahui) that are currently* considered safe to use and for which controlled public access has been authorised by Te Kawerau a Maki within the rahui area. We ask the public to please respect the rahui and stay out of all forested areas and forest tracks not included on the list below. This includes forested local parks and DOC land. We are actively seeking the Government and Council to work with us and the community as a matter of urgency on developing a Waitakere Plan and strategy to ensure the kauri forest is protected for future generations, while providing rationalised, kauri-safe, and long-term solutions for public access to enjoy this taonga.

We wish to sincerely thank the public for your continued support and patience in helping us help the Waitakere forest.

*All forested tracks are subject to monthly and storm-event auditing to ensure track standards do not deteriorate to unsafe levels which will result in immediate closure.
