Dogs New Zealand is delighted to announce that the 2019 Black Hawk National Dog Show will be held in Blenheim. President
of Dogs New Zealand (Dogs NZ), Mr. Nigel Trainor said: “The National Dog Show is our premier event and is held on an
annual basis. In 2019 it will be the 65th staging of the show and the first time it has been held outside of a larger
centre such as Wellington, Auckland or Christchurch.
We certainly share the enthusiasm of Marlborough District Council without whose support we would not have been able to
schedule the show in a smaller centre. We are well aware of the benefits of the greater exposure able to be attained in
a region such as Marlborough and truly believe its residents will embrace our programmes and activities over the five
days we are in Blenheim. Given New Zealanders’ love of man’s best friend we relish the opportunity to promote our
active, healthy and well-mannered dogs in Blenheim in 2019.”
The 2019 Black Hawk National Dog Show will run from Wednesday 2 October through to Saturday 5 October and will be held
in the Marlborough Lines Stadium 2000.
“Our Wellington team and local Dogs NZ members have viewed the stadium layout and see it as ideal for our exhibitors to
showcase our dogs and programmes to the Blenheim and wider Marlborough public. We anticipate that approximately 1,400
dogs of more than 120 different breeds will be involved across our three disciplines of conformation (pure-bred dog
showing), agility and obedience.”
Marlborough District Council Mayor John Leggett says it’s great to know the national dog show is coming to Blenheim next
year because it will bring an influx of visitors to the region.
“An event of this scale will be a real highlight for Marlborough’s spring events calendar,” he said.
“With all the competitors, sponsors and spectators who travel to this national competition, we can expect a busy few
days for our hospitality sector and retailers. It will be a boost for the town’s businesses - but it will also be great
fun for local dog lovers like me to enjoy.”
