SH11 past Lemons Hill reopens to one way-traffic this morning
State Highway 11 past Lemons Hill has reopened to single lane traffic this morning after the road was closed overnight by new slip activity.
There is stop/go traffic management in place and it will continue over the weekend.
After an inspection of the hillside this morning, it’s estimated that it will take three days to remove trees and loose material from the edge of the original slip, says the Transport Agency’s Northland System Manager Jacqui Hori-Hoult.
Crews will work over the weekend and on Monday clearing the road and loose material. We expect to reopen to two- way traffic late Monday afternoon. We ask our customers to check the Transport Agency website for up to date information.
“Our crews will be working on the road so we ask motorists to drive with care, be vigilant, and keep to the temporary speed limit to ensure the safety of all road users. Safety remains our priority,” says Ms Hori-Hoult.
If the road has to be closed at any time, motorists will have to use the alternative route via State Highways 1, 10 and 11. Drivers should allow up to 30 minutes extra for the journey between Kawakawa and Paihia.
The Transport Agency thanks motorists for their continued patience as we work to repair Lemon's Hill and reopen SH11.
