Gisborne Civil Defence monitoring rivers, rainfall overnight
Tairawhiti Civil Defence Emergency Management and Gisborne District Council’s flood warning team will continue to
monitor river levels and rainfall in the district overnight.
Response Manager Paul Stuart said this afternoon a weather warning was in place for the district from 3 pm today until 2
pm Tuesday with 150mm to 220mm of rain predicted especially around the ranges.
“The Metservice have advised us that the heaviest rainfall is predicted to be around the Raukumara Ranges, but the
entire District is expected to see heavy falls more so around the ranges. The City could also potentially see 50 – 100mm
of rain. Peak intensities of 15 to 25mm per hour are predicted with possible thunderstorms on Tuesday.
A strong wind watch is in place for the District from 6pm tonight to 11am Tuesday. Southeast Winds may approach severe
gales at times in exposed areas.
Our Incident Management Team which includes representatives from the Emergency Services and our Flood Warning Team have
met to discuss the forecast weather and any issues that may arise based on current information.
