Bad Weather Delays Lane Layout Changes on SH1 Northbound at Takanini
The NZ Transport Agency advises that lane layout changes planned for tomorrow night on the Southern Motorway at Takinini have been postponed because of bad weather. Metservice is forecasting at least two days of heavy rain for Auckland region.
The work could go ahead later this week so the changes are in place before the weekend. But if the wet weather continues, the changes will be made next week.
“There’s no point trying to paint new lane markings on the motorway in heavy rain. We will wait for an improvement in the weather. Motorists are advised to keep an eye on the electronic messaging boards on the motorway for an update,” says the Transport Agency’s Senior Manager Project Delivery, Chris Hunt.
The planned realignment of lanes for northbound traffic on State Highway 1 requires an overnight closure of the motorway between the Takanini Interchange and Manukau, The lanes will be realigned to create a safe work zone just after the northbound off-ramp at Takanini for approximately 1km. The new lane layout will be in place for about nine months to allow the team to safely build new bridge structures.
