Festivals and Events Plan 2018–2023
Dunedin now has a new five year Festivals and Events Plan.
The plan, recently approved by the Dunedin City Council, outlines the outcomes the DCC, in partnership with other key stakeholders, aims to achieve between 2018 and 2023 to help festivals and events flourish in the city.
DCC Community Development and Events Manager Joy Gunn says the plan went through two consultation phases and the feedback from the 100-plus groups and individuals who responded is well reflected in the final version.
“As a city we’re becoming well known for the vibrancy and breadth of our festivals and events. The five year plan seeks to recognise and build on all the positives. It also identifies areas where we can improve our support and help for event and festival organisers.”
Ms Gunn says DCC staff are already working on a number of ways to improve support for event organisers. This includes hosting professional development opportunities for event organisers in partnership with the New Zealand Events Association, and development of technology to gather information and promote events.
The Festivals and Events Plan 2018–2023 replaces the DCC’s previous Festivals and Events Strategy and comes into effect from 1 July.
