SPCA Desexing Caravan is back in Porirua
SPCA’s Wellington Centre has announced their desexing caravan will be in Porirua for another year.
From June 6th, Porirua residents will be able to book in their cat and dog for low cost desexing, providing they are community card holders or eligible families.
The desexing caravan has been running for a number of years, visiting different suburbs across the Wellington region and has enabled hundreds of cats and dogs to be desexed during its time in action. During that time the caravan has seen refurbishments to add to its potential, including new air conditioning and electrical fittings. This has been possible thanks to the support of sponsors and donors.
The caravan will be re-launching due to the generous input from two different grants from community groups and in conjunction with Porirua Animal Management’s Team.
To cover additional costs and ensure the caravan be operational for as long as possible, donations will be expected from those using the service.
“This service is an ideal way to reach out to people in the community who may not be otherwise able to access this important procedure for their pets,” says SPCA CEO Andrea Midgen.
“We're encouraging any Porirua-based dog and cat owners who are struggling to afford the costs to have their pets desexed to take advantage of this opportunity."
“Desexing is one of the best ways we can create a better future for animals in New Zealand. The caravan has proved extremely successfully over previous years, and we are pleased to continue this service for animal lovers in the community,” says Ms Midgen.
