Entries About To Open For NZ’s Largest Cycling Event
The countdown is on again with early bird entries for this year’s BDO Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge about to open on the
1st of June.
New Zealand’s largest cycling occasion, and arguably one of the country’s largest sports participation events is again
looking forward to welcoming around 6,000 riders and over 9,000 supporters to the Taupo region on Saturday 24 November.
With a philosophy of inclusion, the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge offers a wide variety of options to get on your bike and
be part of the annual pilgrimage to one of New Zealand’s longest and most established events, this year celebrating its
42nd running.
There are 14 different event categories on offer ranging from the iconic 160km Bike Barn Round The Lake, the 80km Half
the Lake, the shorter 40km Quarter Lake, as well as the 35km, 60km and 85km BDO Huka mountain bike options.
Combine this with the 5km Kids Heart Ride, and the 16km Lakesider for the recreational cyclist, and there really is
something on offer for everyone.
The event also has pleasure in announcing its new team line up for 2018.
Debbie Chambers, the Event Director, is responsible for the overall strategic direction for the event moving forward and
comments “I’m excited by the challenge ahead and I’m looking forward to driving innovation and making improvements on an
already iconic event.”
Hayden Dickason, the events Media and Partnerships Manager is responsible for all marketing and PR associated with the
event and for bringing on board and managing relationships between the BDO Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge and its family of
event partners. He is thrilled to have BDO as naming rights partner for a minimum of the next 3 years and is excited to
see the introduction of this year’s BDO Team’s Challenge initiative.
Amy Crawford is the Event Services Manager and is the main contact for participants. She is there to make sure the
registration process is as seamless as possible and also works alongside Ultimo, the events merchandise suppliers to
ensure riders look smart in their BDO Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge kit.
Jules Harvey is the Operations Manager. Her main area of focus is to ensure all participants have fun and to create
atmosphere around the course and at the different start points. She also has a passion for sustainability so looks
forward to seeing some pretty cool initiatives coming both riders and supporters way in 2018.
Nick Reader is the Course Manager. He is responsible primarily for safety and hydration out on course. He is the king of
spreadsheets and safety plans so rest assured he is doing everything he can to ensure rider safety out on course.
