First Union’s Tuesday Strike Action Part of a Wider Campaign
Go Bus committed to providing as much service as possible
Go Bus says that it is once again deeply disappointed with First Union calling a short-notice strike for Tuesday
morning, and anticipates Auckland’s bus-going public, for whom it provides quality bus services, will be growing
increasingly frustrated by this union’s tactics.
The strike will affect some South Auckland bus services between 7:30am and 9:30am. The company’s Ministry of Education
services will not be affected.
Go Bus says it will however do everything it can to provide as many services as possible on strike affected routes.
Go Bus received the official strike notice early Monday morning (28th).
Nigel Piper, Chief Operating Officer of Go Bus, says that the company is extremely disappointed by this action given
negotiations were progressing in good faith with a further meeting scheduled next week, and the company had already
offered an increase that we understood was in line with the union’s expectations and the market”
“We are already one of the highest payers for bus drivers in Auckland and have offered a further increase of 2%, but the
union seem to be more concerned about achieving a National Collective Agreement.”
“We have a good record of increasing wages beyond the level of inflation and have successfully negotiation with the
various other Unions that represent a greater proportion of our people than First Union.”
