SPCA Wellington Centre launches Snip ‘n’ Chip in Hutt Valley

SPCA’s Wellington Centre has relaunched their desexing campaign, offering discounted and affordable desexing and microchipping to cat and dog owners, this time across the Hutt Valley area.

The new Snip ‘n’ Chip campaign will run until August 4. It has been launched in collaboration with New Zealand Companion Animal Register (NZCAR), Hutt City and Upper Hutt City Councils and four participating vet clinics.

With Snip ‘n’ Chip, residents of the Hutt can purchase a microchipping and desexing voucher for their pet for just $9, or $4 for just microchipping (and registration with NZCAR). This is just a fraction of the full price cost, as a desexing procedure and microchipping can cost as much as $500 for large dogs.

Each year hundreds of animals a month are brought into the SPCA Wellington centre. Desexing and responsible ownership are the only way to address the cause of unwanted animals being abused and neglected.

“Desexing is one of the best things we can do for animal welfare in New Zealand,” says SPCA CEO Andrea Midgen.

“Not only will it help your pets have a happier and healthier life, but desexing ensures they don’t unknowingly or unexpectedly reproduce a litter of animals who are at risk of being abused and neglected.”

“By microchipping your pet, you also ensure they find a way home if they ever get lost.”

The SPCA encourages all Hutt residents with undersexed or microchipped pets to take up this fantastic offer. They can book in their cat, kitten, puppy or dog by purchasing a voucher at one of the participating vets, who will give them all the information they need.

“The aim for our campaigns is to also reach out to those who may not have considered having their pet desexed, or may not be able to afford it, and provide pet owners who do not currently have a local vet to get to know one,” says Ms Midgen.
