In honour of the fundraising efforts of firefighters across the country, the Sky Tower has lit red as the $1 million
target has been smashed more than two days ahead of the Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge held on 19 May.
Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand General Manager Georgie Hackett says the lighting of the Tower is a special way to thank the
firefighters.
“It’s so exciting to see the Sky Tower lit up for the Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge. The 950 firefighters
arriving in Auckland from across the country hugely appreciate this recognition of their incredible fundraising efforts
for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand,” says Ms Hackett.
The event, now in its 14th year, raises much-needed funds for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand to continue supporting the six Kiwis diagnosed with a blood cancer or related condition every
day.
The Sky Tower will be lit red until Sunday 20 May.
The Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge sees 950 firefighters from across the country race up 1,103 steps of the Sky
Tower carrying 25kg of equipment. This is the fourth year running that the event has raised more than $1 million, and
this year’s event is tracking well to reach the target of $1.2 million.
