Intersection changes on SH20A to Auckland airport are postponed
The NZ Transport Agency says forecast bad weather has required it to postpone the final transformation of the Landing Drive roundabout on SH20A to Auckland Airport into an intersection controlled by traffic lights.
Metservice is forecasting periods of heavy rain for Saturday and Sunday, which would have affected final preparations including lane marking, says the Transport Agency’s Senior Manager Project Delivery, Chris Hunt.
The work will now go ahead next weekend - subject to a favourable weather forecast - starting on Saturday night 19 May. The intersection will be closed from 8pm until 8am Sunday morning.
Changes to the intersection were necessary because the heavy traffic flows to and from the airport meant the roundabout did not function efficiently.
The new eight lane intersection will increase capacity and improve safety and journey reliability to, from and within the Airport area. The Landing Drive intersection is where SH20A (also known as George Bolt Memorial Drive) ends and transitions into the airport road network.
