New Chief Executive for Masterton District Council announced
Masterton District Council has appointed Kath Ross as its new Chief Executive, effective from August 2018.
Ms Ross has more than 20 years’ experience in local government, across both district and regional councils.
She has held many leadership roles including General Manager of Planning and Policy for the Northland Regional Council, Policy Development Advisor for the United Kingdom’s Environment Agency and, most recently, General Manager Strategic Planning and Policy for the Far North District Council.
Masterton Mayor Lyn Patterson says the Council has been through a rigorous recruitment process and was impressed with Ms Ross’ skills and experience.
“We’re delighted to have Kath join us at Masterton District Council - she brings a wealth of knowledge gained from various senior roles across local government and the public sector, both in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
“Kath has specific experience in strategic planning and policy and knows the importance of engaging with local iwi and hapu – these attributes make her a great fit for the role.”
Ms Ross studied and worked in Wellington and says she is looking forward to returning to the lower North Island.
“The growth of Masterton over recent years has been impressive and there are a number of interesting projects on the horizon that I’m looking forward to getting involved in,” she says.
“I can already see strong connections across the district’s communities, I’m excited about being part of that, not to mention becoming a resident of New Zealand’s most beautiful city.
“I’m humbled by the confidence Council has shown in offering me this position and am looking forward to working with both elected members and staff to serve Masterton’s communities,” she says.
“The Far North District Council has given me invaluable experience and professional development opportunities, enabling me to take on this Chief Executive role.”
Mayor Patterson thanked Pim Borren for his work as Chief Executive over the last four years.
“Pim has shown great dedication and commitment to the role. On behalf of Council I would like to personally thank him for his service.”
Ms Ross’ total remuneration (including all benefits) will be $240,000.
