Bylaw
Time frames for
decorations on the soil of new graves is one of the key
changes Palmerston North City Council is seeking feedback
on as part of the consultation of their Draft Cemeteries and
Crematorium Bylaw. Consultation is now open and ends on 11
June.
This is a new bylaw which Council proposes to adopt in place of the current Cemeteries and Crematorium Bylaw.
Key changes include removing the five-year maximum period for on the soil grave decorations, and instead allow on the soil decorations for 12 months with the ability to renew approval annually. The bylaw also includes a list of prohibited items that cannot be put into the cremator, to prevent the release of carcinogens during cremation and ensure the longevity of the cremator.
The consultation document (see link below) contains further information about the proposed bylaw and this is available on the council website as well as at the Customer Service Centre on The Square, all the city library branches or on our website.
