Auckland Transport Projects Get $28b
Announcements today for transport related projects in Auckland could not have come at a better time. They send a very clear message to those associated with the infrastructure sector that the Government understands the congestion issue and is prepared to fund projects that will begin to address it.
Announcements today identify a $28b spend in Auckland over the next ten years.
“Of interest to the Chamber is the commitment to the Penlink project, Mill Road and the allocation of funds to a redesigned East West project” said CEO Michael Barnett. We should also not overlook the long term positive benefits of a good public transport system which will improve productivity and make it easier to do business and distribute goods and services around Auckland.
“All we need now is some fixed time frames for delivery and some short term fixes for congestion which will only get worse as Auckland grows and construction of the new projects get underway“ said Barnett.
