City businesses team up for ASB Christchurch Marathon Corporate Challenge
24 April 2018
Christchurch’s business community are being challenged to grab their running shoes and their workmates and be part of the ASB Christchurch Marathon’s Corporate Challenge.
Race Director Chris Cox says the Corporate Challenge is a great way to bring city businesses together in a celebration of fun and fitness.
“It’s fantastic to have the support of our business community for the 38th running of the South Island’s favourite footrace,” Mr Cox says. “Training is more fun as a team so grab your workmates and your running shoes and make 2018 your year to run a marathon.”
“We’re encouraging businesses to get a corporate team together, have great day out with your colleagues, smash some personal goals then celebrate with some awesome food and beverage deals while raising money for charity.”
The Christchurch Marathon’s Corporate Challenge, supported by city promotions agency ChristchurchNZ, aims to unite the city’s central business district in support of the running event.
ChristchurchNZ General Manager of Attraction Linda Falwasser says the Marathon is a great opportunity for Christchurch’s business community to rally together to support a renowned event and to share our new city with the world.
“With thousands of people expected to hit the streets on June 3, the ASB Christchurch Marathon is an opportunity for our city to be thriving over the Queens’ Birthday long weekend,” Ms Falwasser says.
“It’s fantastic to see our city’s business community getting behind this running event, from entering race teams to opening up their doors to racegoers and spectators with a range of exciting hospitality and retail offerings.
Ms Falwasser says the city’s bars and restaurants will have the opportunity to cater to thousands of hungry marathon runners and their supporters over the Queens’ Birthday long weekend.
“With runners coming from across the world and all around New Zealand, our aim for those people to stay on, enjoy our new city, shop, eat, party and celebrate the 38th year of the ASB Christchurch Marathon,” she says.
“A successful event will bring positive social and economic benefits to our city so we’re encouraging the whole community to get involved and make this year’s Marathon a memorable experience for everyone,” she says.
Renowned as one of the world’s fastest tracks, the event caters for runners and walkers of all ages and fitness levels with a Full, Half, 10km and kids Mara’Fun, taking participants on a scenic route around iconic city landmarks such as Cathedral Square, Hagley Park, the Avon River and the Red Zone.
Major road closures are planned for the Central City to ensure the safety of racegoers, so spectators and participants are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time to get to and from the event.
