Man pulled from burning vehicle in Papakura

"Man pulled from burning vehicle in Papakura"

Please attribute to Inspector Dave Glossop, Area Commander: Counties Manukau South Police:

A Police officer and member of the public have pulled a man out of a burning car following a serious crash this afternoon.

Just before 4pm today, a car driven by the 27- year- old crashed into a paddock on Papakura-Clevedon Road.

Police and emergency services were called around 3:50pm and it was reported that the vehicle was on fire.

Constable Jenny Sinclair made her way towards the vehicle, along with a member of the public who was also at the scene.

The pair saw that the sole occupant of the vehicle was lapsing in and out of consciousness and badly injured, but they were unable to enter the car through the driver’s side due to flames.

Despite the danger, the pair approached the passenger side and pulled the injured driver out of the vehicle. When they were just meters away the vehicle exploded, firing debris in all directions.

Other emergency services arrived shortly after and the driver was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Police are extremely proud of Constable Sinclair and the good samaritan, who we will be thanking formally at a later time.

Our thoughts are also with the injured driver.
