Students heading to Invercargill grand final

Geraldine, Ashburton and Waimate students heading to Invercargill grand final
A talented duo from Geraldine High School has taken tophonoursat the Aorangi TeenAg Regional Final.
Ben Chambers and Jakob Stachurski won the hotly-contestedTeenAgevent in Waimate today.
The event saw 38 teams clashat the Waimate A Showgrounds.
Alex Jones and Harriet Stock from Ashburton College took out second place.
Both teams have qualified for theTeenAgGrand Final in Invercargill.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” said 16-year-old Jakob Stachurski.
“This is our second year doing TeenAg, and we plan to put in heaps of work before grand final.”
“Our strengths are working together and fencing,” added Ben Chambers, who’s also 16-years-old.
Eliane Craig, Charlotte Hurst and Ruby Shortus from Waimate High School won the fiercely-contestedAgriKidsNZcompetition.
That event sawa record 50teams tackle fun challengestestingtheir practical and theoretical skills.
Lachlan Rooney, Ruby Giera and Annabel Harmer from Mt Somers Springburn School placed second.
Austin Watson, Henry Gray and Tim Cannely-White from Ashburton Intermediate School were third.
All three teams have qualified for theAgriKidsNZGrand Final in Invercargill.
“This will be our third time at grand final,” said Ruby Shortus. “Maybe this time we’ll take it out,” added Eliane Craig.
The aim of the event is to get kids excited about a career in the primary industries, said competition co-ordinator DavidHighsted.
Almost a quarter of the teams entered in the two competitions today were from Geraldine High School.
Both national finals will take place alongside the prestigious FMG Young Farmer of the Year Grand Final in July.
TeenAg andAgriKidsNZare a key part of the work NZ Young Farmers is doing to attract students into the agri-food sectors.
