Mobile Library Extends Its Service

Library Extends Its Service

This Saturday (14 April), Palmerston North’s Mobile Library will commence a new regular route of the Aokautere/ Summerhill suburb. The Mobile Library is also now providing a full seven day per week service and has increased the number of stops to 39, up from 34. A 40th is soon to be announced.

“Around 40 percent of our Mobile Library visits are to areas of high need where lack of transport, household access to the internet and low household income are factors of socio-economic disadvantage,” says Deon Knox – PNCC Community Libraries Team Leader.

“Many of the stops include preschools, schools, rest homes and retirement villages; as children, seniors and other community sectors with mobility issues are a key focus.”

Other stops provide library services to growing areas of the city including Kelvin Grove and Aokautere, in addition to village centres such as Bunnythorpe and Longburn.

A recent view of the Mobile Library timetable also took an environment view, with a rationalisation of weekly travel routes to provide the additional visits with only an extra two kilometres added to the total distance travelled.

New residential Mobile Library timetables are available from Friday 13 April, with the updates of Mobile Library timetable and map on the library’s website currently underway.
