Tornado Report #6 – 5.30pm

Tornado in National Park Village
Power has been restored to most of the village except for most damaged areas
Some people may be without power overnight
The USAR Team are hoping to complete their assessment by 6.00pm
They have been assessing whether properties can be reentered safety for removal of items, or for insurance assessments, or to re-occupy
Incident Control Point (ICP) and Welfare Centre will remain open until 6.00pm
Welfare centre is also supporting response teams
Decision on Welfare whether may remain open later than 6.00pm will be made around 5.45
People who are unable to be in their own homes overnight have been accommodated overnight
The cordon still in place - affects around 40 properties
Security guards supported by Police stationed over night to maintain cordon and protect
Ruapehu civil defence team will reconvene in the morning to assess what needs to be done
