All Aboard the LTP Train
For this year’s Long Term Plan 2018-2028 (LTP), the Hurunui District Council is taking a novel approach to its
consultation process. Reflecting the LTP’s theme ‘Keeping On Track’, members of the public are invited to an informal
get together with councillors on board the Weka Pass Diesel Train on Thursday 19 April, 6-8pm.
Council CEO, Hamish Dobbie, says the meeting on the train will be a one off opportunity for members of the public to
spend time with their elected representatives, and have a chat about the council’s plans and work programme over the
next 10 years.
“Residents can share their views one on one with councillors while enjoying their surrounds on board what is one of our
district’s iconic tourism attractions.”
All Hurunui District residents are invited to attend this free event, with refreshments and food provided. However,
RSVPs are required to give the council an indication of numbers and can be sent to: info@hurunui.govt.nz or phone the
council directly on 314 8816.
Mayor Winton Dalley says he is hopeful of a good turnout for such a unique event.
“I encourage our community to come along to what is not going to be your everyday public meeting.
Get involved in the LTP process and make your voices heard in a relaxed and fun environment.”
The special meeting on board the train, travelling along the Weka Pass Railway will be complemented by a series of other
public information sessions as follows:
• Wednesday, 18 April 6:30-7:30pm ex-Council Chambers, Culverden
• Monday, 23 April 5:00pm - 6:00pm Hanmer Springs Library and Service Centre
• Thursday, 26 April 6:30pm - 7:30pm Waikari Hall, Waikari
• Tuesday, 1 May 5:00pm - 6:00pm Cheviot Library and Service Centre
• Thursday, 3 May 6:30pm - 7:30pm Council Chambers, Amberley
Submissions on the draft LTP close on Sunday 6 May 2018, with all submissions received by that date put before the
council at a hearing during 15-16 May 2018. The council will then decide what changes to the proposals need to be made
before finalising the Long Term Plan.
