Council funding on offer for ideas that reduce waste
Council funding on offer for ideas that reduce waste
Applications open April 1 for Auckland Council’s Waste Minimisation and Innovation Fund (WMIF), which funds great ideas for reducing waste to landfill.
Businesses, iwi/Māori and education/community groups can apply for up to $5000 towards their project.
What projects can get funding?
Councillor Alf Filipaina, Deputy Chair of the Environment and Community Committee, says the WasteMinimisation and Innovation Fund is open to Aucklanders who have innovative, impactful and sustainable projects.
“We’re committed to supporting projects that help achieve Auckland’s ambition to become zero waste by 2040,” says Cr Filipaina.
“Partnering with people and groups that have a fantastic waste minimisation initiative that is really going to resonate with their community or a particular audience just makes good sense.
“We’re proud to support these innovative and community-minded Aucklanders who have a great deal to offer when it comes to supporting that zero waste goal.”

About Auckland Council’s Waste

(WMIF):
• Funding for the Waste Minimisation

year for grants of over $5000 and up to $50,000 (September)
and two funding rounds for grants of $5000 and under (April
and September).
• The Waste Minimisation and Innovation
Fund was adopted in 2013, and was designed to support
projects and innovative solutions which promote or achieve
waste management and minimisation, reduce waste to landfill
in accordance with the objectives of the Auckland Council
Waste Management and Minimisation Plan, and foster new ideas
and encourage community participation in reducing waste to
landfill.
• The fund is open to community groups,
