Water Restrictions Lifted

Water Restrictions Lifted

Council advises all water restrictions are now removed for Palmerston North, Linton, Ashhurst, Bunnythorpe and Longburn.

“Following recent rainfall the Turitea Dams have been topped up,” says Dora Luo, PNCC Water Asset Engineer.

“Council thanks residents for their efforts in conserving water and complying with the water conservation measures during the long summer dry spell. Their efforts assisted us with not having to introduce stricter restrictions.”

“The restrictions were introduced to ensure the continuous supply of water for the essential needs of households, business and public services when the city’s water storage was not replenished.

“Some major improvement work on the city’s deep water bores has also now been completed.”

Council is continuing to improve the water source capacity of the city’s water supply with recent activity including:

· Starting drilling of a new bore at Keith Street.

· Replacing the bore pump on one of the Roberts Line bores to boost capacity into the Kelvin Grove area.

· Continuing with consenting, design and preparation for construction of piping, pumping, storage and treatment works to connect the new Railway Road bore to the network

· Planning for commissioning in the near of the new Papaioea Park bore ahead of connecting it to the network

“We wish to continue to remind people that water is a precious resource and Council encourages all users to practice to water conservation throughout the year.

“This is critical as the city’s water supply is governed by a Resource Consent which obliges Council through consent conditions to ensure that water is used sustainably and responsibly at all times.
