New tour unlocks magic of South Canterbury
The undiscovered beauty and diversity of South Canterbury is now on show with the launch of a new guided tour company.
Explore South Canterbury, a subsidiary of Pleasant Point transport company Aitkinson and Dossett, have launched their new service with a guided agricultural tour, taking in some of the best scenery, experiences and food in our district.
Their website www.exploresouthcanterbury.co.nz shows the full itinerary and pricing for this inaugural tour experience.
Henrietta Hazlett, Industry Partnerships Manager for Aoraki Tourism says the tour gives a full farm to market experience for visitors, highlighting the region’s status as an agricultural powerhouse.
“The first stop enables people to see some of the world’s most coveted deer leather in production in Timaru, before it’s exported to the European fashion houses of Gucci and Prada, and used closer to home by cult manufacturer, Deadly Ponies,” she said.
The tour then takes in picturesque Pleasant Point, followed by a scenic drive to Geraldine where you will dine on locally sourced and produced cuisine at Verde.
From here it is a leisurely drive a local working farm, where you will experience the magic of working dogs in action and a woolshed demonstration from one of the world’s best shearers. Not far away you can hand feed a tame pet red deer and view the world’s largest white deer population.
To finish off your day, how about taking some friendly Alpaca for a stroll to the Rangitata River for a wee swim (them, not you).
Back to base via coach with a heap of photographs, awesome memories and stories to tell.
Tour pricing includes morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. For more information, visit exploresouthcanterbury.co.nz
