Consultation for Potential Purchase of Water Project Shares

Consultation Period for Potential Purchase of Water Project Shares Confirmed

The Hurunui District Council has confirmed the dates for the consultation period for the potential purchase of Hurunui Water Project shares. This comes after the council resolved to complete the share purchase subject to suitable terms being reached with HWP on the purchase details and consultation being undertaken.

Submissions are now open and will be accepted until Thursday 12 April 2018. During this period, four public information evenings will be held as follows:

• Monday 26 March – Heritage Hotel, Hanmer Springs

• Tuesday 27 March – Council Chambers, Amberley

• Tuesday 3 April – Waikari Community Hall, Waikari

• Wednesday 4 April – Cheviot Community Room, Cheviot School

Once submissions close, submitters who have elected to have their submission heard will be invited to present to the council in person over two days, 17-18 April.

Council CEO Hamish Dobbie says the consultation period will be immensely important to the final decision made by the council on the purchase.

“The information evenings will provide an opportunity for the community to access further information before formally submitting.”

“As this is a complex issue that is significant for many in our communities, it is important that members of the public are enabled to have their voices heard on this issue before the council progresses further,” he says.

A final decision will be made by the council on either Wednesday 18 April after the hearing of submissions has concluded or at the scheduled council meeting of Thursday 26 April
