Frankton Campground Lease Extended
Monday, 19 March 2018
Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) has extended the Frankton Camp lease by twelve months through to 31 August 2019.
In addition, QLDC has frozen rent and tariff charges to all permit holders at the campground. The site’s managers will offer permit extensions and therefore surety of residence until the lease expires.
This decision comes as Council looks to develop a district-wide Camping Strategy which will seek to determine future options for existing Council camping facilities, including the Frankton Camp, beyond 31 August 2019.
By extending the lease until after the strategy is completed, disruption to camp residents and users will be minimised and allows them time to plan other accommodation arrangements before the lease expires.
A decision has yet to be made on the future of the campground, but it is unlikely that there will be options for permanent or semi-permanent accommodation at the site.
QLDC staff will be meeting with permit holders at the campground in early April to explain this decision and possible future options.
