BREAK OUT # 2 takes centre stage!

BREAK OUT # 2 takes centre stage!

14 March 2018

Keen young Nelson-Tasman performance enthusiasts will have a chance to strut their stuff at Break Out #2, scheduled to take to the Trafalgar Centre stage on Tuesday 26 June 2018.

Break Out is a youth-led performance and production showcase open to schools (secondary and intermediate) and non-school groups, aged between 11-18 years.

Councillor Gaile Noonan, Chair of the Community Services Committee, says that Break Out provides young people with an avenue to creatively express themselves.

“I attended last year’s show and they set a very high standard. I thoroughly enjoyed it and there was a really good mix of genres. Break Out provides an inspiring and supportive environment that nurtures leadership, teamwork, and the fostering of new friendships.”

Each show of 4-6 minutes is delivered by young performers on stage. Performances are produced by their team-mates who create costumes, props and sets, and compile and mix the accompanying sound and lighting tracks.

Performances can be themed around a particular issue or topic of relevance to young people, or simply profile the amazing skills and talents they have.

Nayland College hosted the inaugural Break Out in 2017, featuring performances from five Nelson-Tasman High Schools. With support from Nelson City Council, the 2018 edition at the Trafalgar Centre intends to build on this, allowing more school and community groups an opportunity to take part.

Registrations close 18 May 2018, with a limited number of performance spaces available. Interested Schools and community groups are encouraged to enrol early to reserve their place.
