Slips and flooding close SH 5 between Napier and Taupo
The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that State Highway 5 between Napier and Taupo is closed after heavy rain caused slips and flooding.
It’s not yet clear when the road will reopen.
A detour route for travellers is via Palmerston North on State Highway 1 and 2, but this will add 4 to 5 hours to the journey.
