Our advocates need your help: AAAP
Auckland Action Against Poverty advocates are back at Manurewa and Clendon Work and Income offices from this week
onward! From 8:45am, on Manurewa on Thursdays and Clendon on Fridays, our advocates will be able to support people
access food grants and other forms of emergency payments.
Our advocates are volunteers who rely on donations to AAAP to have access to the resources they need to carry out their
work. The Beneficiary Rights Booklets, our office space in Onehunga, and the training we provide are all largely
dependent on donations. Help us continue our advocacy work this year and make a donation today.
The fight to end the punitive sanctions on solo mums is not over. The new Labour led Government may have committed to
ending sanctions on solo mums but they haven't provided a timeline on when these sanctions are going. Every year that
goes by solo mums are deprived of at least $25 million dollars a year, which could be going towards essential items such
as nappies and food.
AAAP is the only group of its kind in New Zealand, and our work towards building a political system based on fairness,
not punishment, is more important than ever. With a change of Government comes both opportunities for positive change
but also the need for accountability. So far this year we have maintained a strong presence in the media, ensuring that
our voice and our political vision reaches politicians and the public. We need to be resourced in order to run effective
political campaigns, grow our base of volunteers, and reach out to communities we haven't before.
Help us make sure the Labour led Government ends Section 70A now.
