Tender accepted for second stage of He Ara Kotahi Pathway
The second stage of the He Ara Kotahi pathway will soon commence construction following Council’s acceptance of a tender
from Fulton Hogan for $2.6m. The second stage includes the construction of the pathway from its current end point, 200m
short of the Turitea Stream, to 50m from the proposed Kahuterawa Stream crossing.
The contract involves construction of approximately 2.8kms of shared lime surfaced pathway, three timber bridges (across
Turitea Stream, Farm Road and Maungatungaroa Stream), timber boardwalks with handrails, 20 metres of retaining walls,
and culverts.
“The nature of the work is a combination of bridge building, raised boardwalk construction and civil construction,” says
Ray Swadel, PNCC General Manager City Networks. “While they all require different skillsets, we considered it
appropriate to combine all of the work in one contract as it is simpler from a contract management perspective.”
Two tenders were received and were evaluated by a Tender Evaluation Team using a price quality method as the work
qualifies for financial assistance from New Zealand Transport Agency
“It is also pleasing that the successful tender was closely aligned to our independent engineer’s estimate,” says
Swadel.
Progress is being made designing the remaining pathway sections to Bells Road at Linton including a suspension bridge
across the Kahuterawa Stream, and the link to Massey and the Fitzherbert Science Centres (Stages 3 and 4).
The completion date for all four stages of the project is April 2019.
