Wellington Rape Crisis launches its
Annual Appeal
Wellington Rape Crisis will hold its annual appeal this week, with street collectors throughout Wellington on Friday 2nd March and Saturday 3rd March.
Donations can also be made through the agency’s website and will go towards the operating costs of the agency which aren’t covered by government funding.
“Wellington Rape Crisis delivers vital support services to survivors of sexual violence and we incredibly proud to have been a part of the Wellington community for 40 years” says Kyla Rayner, Agency Manager.
Wellington Rape Crisis receives government and council funding and other grants for specific costs and projects, but last year about a quarter of the day-to-day running of the agency was paid for with public donations.
“Our Annual Appeal plays a critical role in keeping our doors open, but equally important is the opportunity to remind survivors and their support people that we are here, there are places you can come for support”
Annual appeal coordinators, Anita Lowry and Esther Gedye Taylor have been overwhelmed by the local businesses, groups and individuals who have put their hands up to run events, collect at their workplace or stand on the street with a bucket.
“There are so many ways you can support the work of Wellington Rape Crisis this year. You can eat a taco this Tuesday at Rouge and Vagabond, buy a delicious cupcake from Sweet Release, buy a beer at the Southern Cross through their Koha Keg on Friday, dancing the night away at Caroline or just visit the website to make a donation – every dollar will make a significant difference in our community”
