Manawatu students heading to Invercargill grand final
Feilding High School has again taken top honours at the Taranaki/Manawatu TeenAg Regional Final.
Teammates and Levi Stewart and David Reesby won the fiercely-contested TeenAg event in Wellington on Saturday.
The contest saw 32 teams clash in front of a vocal crowd of supporters.
“We’re pretty stoked,” said Levi.
“It feels really good to have won. This was our second year trying, so we’re really excited to be heading to the grand
final,” said David.
Olivia Buick and Sophie Ridd, who’re also from Feilding High School, took out second place.
Both teams have qualified for the TeenAg Grand Final in Invercargill.
Phoebe Smails and Anna Simpson came third.
Rhys Mitchell, William Roberts and Lachlan Brownlie from Palmerston North Intermediate Normal School won the
hotly-contested AgriKidsNZ contest.
That event saw 16 teams tackle fun challenges testing their practical and theoretical skills.
“It was an awesome day, even though the weather was hot,” said Lachlan.
Elsa Trotter, Tom Whitton and Kendall Rakete-Marshall from South Makirikiri School placed second.
Aleesha Managh, Katie Clarke and Abbey Grant, who’re also from South Makirikiri School, were third.
All three teams have qualified for the AgriKidsNZ Grand Final in Invercargill.
Both events will take place alongside the prestigious FMG Young Farmer of the Year Grand Final in July.
TeenAg and AgriKidsNZ are a key part of the work being done by NZ Young Farmers to attract students into the agri-food
sector.
