Fuel Limit to be Lifted in Golden Bay from 9.00am
26 February 2018
Following several successful fuel deliveries to Golden Bay over the weekend, the $30 Fuel Limit introduced last week is to be lifted from 9.00 am this morning.
Recovery Manager Richard Kirby says it is an encouraging sign.
"We've had several fuel convoys arrive and replenish supplies, so we are confident there is sufficient supply for residents and businesses," he said.
However, the situation remains dynamic - and things may change depending on the weather.
"If the weather deteriorates, the road may close again, and we will need to look at re-introducing the limit if supplies run short."
Richard also said the way the affected communities in Riwaka, Brooklyn Valley and other areas are collaborating to recover from this emergency was heartening.
"It's brilliant to see the communities pulling together. The level of community support in Riwaka, Marahau and Motueka is fantastic."
"Red Cross and NZRT-2 teams remain in the field today as well as welfare teams."
Meanwhile Civil Defence's priorities for the week ahead are:
• Continuing to check on residents and conducting welfare and impact assessments as well as building inspections
• Providing emergency community support
• Restoring services
The Emergency Operations Centre remains active .
