Taranaki DHB has put measures in place to ensure its business as usual at the hospital even though there is a boil water
notice in place until further notice.
Gillian Campbell, Taranaki DHB COO says, “Last night we delivered water bottles to patients and staff and also clean
water for treatment of patients. We are expecting a water truck with clean water supply on campus this morning.”
“Acute surgeries will continue to go ahead today. However 15 elective cases and 16 endoscopy procedures have been
cancelled today. Tomorrow’s cases are currently being considered with a decision to be made later today.”
Apart from elective and renal cases it is business as usual. All clinical services and patient care will continue as
normal, such as outpatients and ED.
“The main message for people is that unless they have been contacted directly by the hospital, they are to turn up to
their appointments at the hospital and bring a water bottle with them,” says Mrs Campbell.
“Hospital staff are managing the situation safely and patients are receiving the usual high standard of care,” she
added.
“If anyone is coming to the hospital we ask them to bring their own clean water. Hand hygiene is also important at all
times. Extra wipes and hand sanitiser will be available in clinical areas and public areas.”
