WCC and Excio team up to showcase creativity on the streets in NZ's Capital of Culture
In an ongoing partnership, Wellington City Council and Excio are now showcasing some of the city’s diverse murals and
images from ReCut, the new art event series, on digital devices around the world.
Wellington is known as New Zealand's Capital of Culture and is well loved for its diverse arts and culture scene. In
2017 a series of free dynamic outdoor art events was created to showcase the capital's emerging and already established
creative talent. Organised by Wellington City Council, ReCut covers all aspects of art forms including sculpture,
digital art, fashion, sonic arts, dance, music, the written and spoken word and so much more in a spectacle of sound,
light and colour.
This series of events brings art to the people of Wellington and now Wellington City Council and Excio will be
showcasing the city's art on walls and delivering highlights of ReCut to a worldwide audience.
Council’s City Arts and Events team is working to improve information and access to the city’s arts activities. “Excio
are providing another way for people to engage with art and events in our city”, says Arts Programme Advisor, Katie
Taylor-Duke.
Excio is an award-winning Wellington-born app that delivers an array of interesting and meaningful photographs and
artworks directly to users’ mobile phone screens 24/7. Their mission is to bring people closer to culture in the 21st
century, to inspire and educate them, helping to bring cultural images to life with the addition of audio and
descriptions. They already have a partnership with Wellington City Council Archives, getting hundreds of the city's
heritage photos seen by the public, and have also teamed up with Te Papa and Wellington City Libraries.
Excio's co-founder and CEO Ana Lyubich says, “We are super excited to be able to give both our local and worldwide
community of users access to the new art on walls and ReCut collections. Excio users are visual fans so allowing them to
see public art created by talented local artists is a special moment. We hope to bring more art on walls and events to
the platform from around NZ and internationally in the near future.”
