Sky Tower joins landmarks lighting for Chinese New Year

Sky Tower joins landmarks lighting for Chinese New Year

The Sky Tower’s red and gold glow on Auckland’s skyline is extra special this year with the icon joining some of the tallest towers around the world to celebrate Chinese New Year.

An initiative by Guangzhou in China, the World-Wide Tower Light-Up Project sees the tallest towers in cities in China, USA, Australia, Japan, Germany, Russia, and New Zealand light up in red and/or gold to celebrate Chinese New Year and the Chinese Spring Festival.

The Sky Tower will be lit with a gold base and red top from 15 February to 4 March*. The lighting is best viewed, photographed or filmed 30 minutes after sunset at 8.18pm.

The Sky Tower is the Southern Hemisphere’s tallest free-standing structure. Based in the heart of Auckland, it is one of New Zealand’s most recognisable landmarks.

SKYCITY lights the Sky Tower for charities or community initiatives that we support financially, to mark national holidays, milestones or other celebrations or events, or as a symbol of respect or solidarity.

*On Saturday 17 February, the Sky Tower will light in rainbow colours for the Auckland Pride Parade.
