Council’s Summer Events a Hit With Kids
Over the last two months, the Hurunui District Council’s Community Team have run a number of summer activities for kids throughout the District. These have included pool parties in Rotherham, Culverden, Hawarden and Waiau and a Hanmer Springs community event in January.
The pool parties throughout the district have provided a wide range of activities for young people to get involved in, including free use of a pool and inflatables. The Hurunui’s favourite children’s entertainer, Sports Suzie, has also been on hand to provide a lot of fun for the kids. Music and a barbeque were also provided to create a fantastic day out for young people in the district’s communities.
The council’s Community Team also ran a well-attended Skate Jam event in Hanmer Springs. Facilitated by the ‘Cheapskates Skate Skool’, those who came along were able to use the inline skates and skateboards on offer to skate the day away.
“These events have provided an awesome opportunity for our district’s children and young people to have fun and connect with each other. The events were well attended and supported by the local communities and are something the council can be proud of,” says Community Team Leader Rochelle Faimalo.
“It is great that we can be out putting these events on for the community and make use of the Hurunui’s fantastic community facilities.”
There are still two further events with the Rotherham drive-in movie still to come on Friday 16 February where the classic ET will be shown, and the final pool party taking place in Greta Valley on Thursday 22 February
