Penrose Station’s platform 3 gets an extension
Improvements to Penrose train station will get concert-goers to and from the station more quickly with less crowding.
Penrose is the station which is used for concerts and sports events at Mt Smart Stadium.
Auckland Transport (AT) is beginning work to extend the length of platform 3 at Penrose Station by 15 metres at its northwest end and by 40 metres at its southwest end. AT has awarded the contract to Libbet Limited.
Once complete, the extension will allow 6-car trains to service the station when special events are held at Mt Smart.
Other improvements to the station include the construction of a new staircase to the western end of the platform, new lighting and better CCTV and public announcement systems.
Auckland Transport is aiming to have an operational and useable, 6-car platform ready for scheduled concerts at Mt Smart Stadium in March but the full work will take up to 12 weeks to complete.
During construction, trains will continue to stop at Penrose Station.
